Research Lines in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature

LITERATURE AND SOCIETY

Based on the immanent analysis of literary works, the studies in this line seek to recognize and interpret, in the material that constitutes the text, the mediated configuration of historical-social elements, sedimented in the form that expresses them.

THE COMPARATIVE STUDY OF LITERATURE

This line of research is concerned with the interrelation between literary works and between literary works and other arts (such as the visual arts, cinema, music). It encompasses a wide range of studies, based on classical and contemporary theories, that explore the dialogue of the comparative exercise with criticism, history, and literary theory.

LITERARY FORMS AND GENRES

Through the categories of "form" and "genre," studies in this area explore the theoretical permanence and historical reformulations of literary genres, with particular attention to modern ruptures and contemporary transformations.

LITERARY CRITICISM AND THE HISTORY OF LITERATURE

Seeking to reflect on the theoretical concepts that underpin literary studies, this line focuses on the study of critical activity and literary production from a historical-cultural perspective, encompassing various aspects of the critical-theoretical thinking of writers, critics, and literary historians.

LITERATURE AND OTHER FORMS OF KNOWLEDGE

This line considers interdisciplinary dialogues between literary studies and other fields of the humanities, such as psychoanalysis, philosophy and anthropology, in order to study literary texts in the light of other knowledge and to bring the contribution of literary studies to other disciplines.
